DL VINTAGE POST

A true showcase for Gliwice

DL VINTAGE POST is an integral part of the historic center of Gliwice. Comprising two heritage buildings—the former Main Post Office and the former Grain Exchange—the complex is situated at the intersection of Dolnych Wałów and Zwycięstwa streets, key arteries connecting the city center. The location offers convenient access to DTŚ and the A1 motorway.

The immediate surroundings feature numerous retail and service points, as well as public parking areas. Within walking distance, there are local government offices, cultural institutions, and faculties of the Silesian University of Technology. The area also includes residential neighborhoods, the City Hospital, the Municipal Park, and the Market Square.

Currently, the former Main Post Office houses office spaces and areas designated for gastronomic and service businesses. Meanwhile, the former Grain Exchange has been transformed into a unique dining destination, reshaping the culinary landscape not only of Gliwice but the entire region.

History of the General Post Office

The decision to build a post office in Gliwice was made in the late 19th century. Construction began in 1904 and was completed on July 6, 1906, when the building was formally commissioned. The history of the project is beautifully described on Zabytek.pl, which is a project cataloging Polish historic properties:

[From the beginning, the edifice was distinguished by its architecture. It was built in the style of historicism with a dominance of neo-Gothic elements. What's more, the stylistic features of the building are to the greatest extent a reference to the medieval variety of the Gothic style called “beautiful”, which was popularized in the 14th century thanks to the activity of the architectural workshop of Henryk Brunsberg in Western Pomerania and Brandenburg. The Gliwice post office grew rapidly and introduced innovations to its services. As early as 1907, a telegraph office appeared in the building.

In 1910, a machine for issuing stamps was installed. A significant innovation was the introduction of air mail in 1925. Around 1927, the building was expanded with a rear wing and partially rebuilt, including the introduction of a staircase in the tower. After 1945, the building was owned by the Polish Post Office* until 2016, when it was purchased by DL Invest Group, which bought it to renovate it and bring this previously departed property back to Gliwice [...]

As part of the renovation of the historic building, new functions were also introduced to the building, which enlivened the space and allowed it to be given a new dimension, including:

  • Redevelopment and repurposing of the ground floor, introducing new functions such as a gym and a gastronomic area
  • Complete refurbishment of all interior spaces to meet the needs of modern office users, including reorganization of the functional layout and restoration of the corridor system
  • Replacement of building installations, including electrical and ventilation systems, as well as the installation of new systems such as air conditioning
  • Restoration of the building’s historic façade
  • Renovation of heritage flooring, doors, granite entrance stairs, and polychrome staircases
